Cockroaches hide in cracks by day and contaminate food, dishes and counters at night. Our gel-bait and growth-regulator programme kills the whole population — including the ones you never see.

Introduction

What are cockroaches?

Cockroaches are among the most common pests in Pakistani homes, restaurants and offices. They are nocturnal, fast and able to squeeze into gaps as thin as a coin, which is why a few sightings in the kitchen at night usually mean a much larger population hiding behind cabinets, inside appliances and in drains.

The two species we treat most often are the small German cockroach, which lives indoors in kitchens and breeds extremely fast, and the large reddish-brown American cockroach, which comes up from sewers, drains and gutter lines — especially during the monsoon.

Sprays alone tend to scatter cockroaches deeper into walls. A professional programme combines targeted gel baits, insect growth regulators (IGRs) that stop nymphs from becoming breeding adults, and drain and void treatment, supported by simple sanitation and proofing.

Species

Common cockroaches species in Pakistan

Correct identification decides the treatment. These are the types our technicians find most often.

German cockroach

Blattella germanica
Size: 12–15 mm

Light brown with two dark stripes behind the head. Lives indoors in kitchens and appliances; the most common and fastest-breeding species in homes and restaurants.

American cockroach

Periplaneta americana
Size: 35–40 mm

Large, reddish-brown and able to fly short distances. Lives in sewers, drains, basements and manholes and enters buildings through floor traps.

Oriental cockroach

Blatta orientalis
Size: 20–27 mm

Dark brown to black, slow-moving and fond of cool damp places such as drains, basements and under sinks.

Brown-banded cockroach

Supella longipalpa
Size: 10–14 mm

Two pale bands across the wings. Prefers warm, dry, high spots — behind picture frames, inside electronics and furniture.

Health risk

Why cockroaches are a problem

Food poisoning

Cockroaches walk through drains and waste and then over food and utensils, mechanically spreading bacteria such as Salmonella and E. coli.

Asthma & allergies

Their droppings, saliva and shed skins contain allergens that are a well-known trigger for asthma, particularly in children.

Contaminated surfaces

They leave droppings, egg cases and a musty odour on counters, cutlery drawers and stored food.

Business risk

A single cockroach seen by a customer or food inspector can mean bad reviews, failed audits or closure notices.

Warning signs

Signs of a cockroach infestation

  • Live cockroaches running when you switch on the kitchen light
  • Pepper-like droppings in drawers, cabinets and corners
  • Brown, purse-shaped egg cases (oothecae)
  • A strong musty or oily smell in enclosed spaces
  • Shed skins near hiding spots
  • Smear marks along walls and cabinet edges

Solution for this pest

How PestVira gets rid of cockroaches

Our Integrated Pest Management process for cockroaches — the least-hazardous effective method, applied exactly where it is needed.

Inspection with flushing

We check kitchens, bathrooms, drains, appliances and store rooms, using a flushing agent and torch to reveal harbourages and estimate the population size.

Identification & plan

German, American or mixed infestation? The species decides the method. You receive a plan covering bait placement, drains and follow-ups.

Gel bait + IGR treatment

Odourless gel bait is placed in cracks, hinges and behind fittings; cockroaches share it back in their hiding places. An insect growth regulator stops the next generation. Drains and floor traps receive a separate treatment.

Follow-up & monitoring

Sticky monitors show us whether numbers are falling. A follow-up visit 2–3 weeks later treats any remaining activity and new hatchlings.

Prevention

How to prevent cockroaches

  • Wipe counters and stovetops every night; don’t leave dirty dishes overnight.
  • Store food, sugar and pet food in sealed containers.
  • Cover floor traps and drains with mesh and keep them water-sealed.
  • Fix leaking taps and pipes — cockroaches need water daily.
  • Get rid of stacked cardboard boxes and newspapers.
  • Seal gaps around pipes, cables and kitchen cabinets.

Ask us a question

What is the fastest way to get rid of cockroaches permanently?

The fastest lasting result comes from professional gel baiting combined with an insect growth regulator and drain treatment, followed by one follow-up visit. Most homes see a sharp drop within the first week, with full control after the follow-up.

Why do cockroaches come back after spraying?

Sprays only kill the cockroaches they touch and can make the rest scatter deeper into walls. Egg cases are protected from most sprays, so a new generation hatches a few weeks later. Baits and growth regulators target the hidden population and the next generation.

Is cockroach gel treatment safe in the kitchen?

Yes. Gel bait is applied in tiny dots inside cracks, hinges and behind appliances — places people and pets can’t reach — and it has no odour. You don’t need to empty the kitchen or leave the house.

Where do cockroaches come from in apartments?

In apartments they usually travel between units through drains, shafts, electrical conduits and shared walls, or arrive hidden in grocery bags and cardboard boxes. American cockroaches often come up through floor traps from the sewer line.

Can cockroaches make you sick?

Cockroaches can spread bacteria that cause food poisoning and diarrhoea by contaminating food and surfaces, and their allergens can trigger asthma and allergies.

How often should a restaurant get cockroach treatment?

Food businesses should be on a monthly monitoring and treatment programme with documented service reports. This keeps activity at zero and gives you the records food authorities and auditors ask for.
